| Principal's Message |
Welcome to Spotswood High School, a comprehensive institution that focuses on excellence in academics, the arts, athletics and community service. We are an educational community that includes students from Spotswood, Milltown, and Helmetta. The high school looks to promote the concepts of independent thinking, effective communication, and lifelong learning, in order to produce students who are personally responsible, have good moral character and are productive members of our society.
Academics have been and continue to be our number one priority. The curriculum is challenging and vigorous and includes Advanced Placement, Honors, and Career/Technology courses. With the addition of Advanced Placement Art History at Spotswood High School, students now have eleven options in this area. Our goal is to challenge each student and help them achieve their maximum potential.
Many students have taken advantage of the “Stars Program” and attend community colleges such as Middlesex County College at no cost if they are ranked in the top 20% of their class. For the past five years, Spotswood High School has averaged sending 90% of graduating seniors to the collegiate ranks. In addition, each class has earned over $3 million in annual scholarships.
Through the work of our staff and with the input of our parental leadership, we are changing our grading system for the 2008/09 school year. The addition of plusses and minuses will allow parents and their children to get a clear understanding of pupil progress. This new system will also be seen as a strength when applying to colleges. With the anticipation of having grading on line beginning in September 2009, the communication between the home and school will be at an all time high. It is our goal to let no student fall through the cracks and fail. Our school will make every attempt to see that every student meets with success.
At Spotswood High School, we take pride in our ability to offer students choices in academics and activities, and to support them in the decisions they make. The teaching staff, the support staff and the administration work together to create a positive learning environment.
I am extremely proud to have the opportunity to lead Spotswood High School in its continuing quest for excellence in the classroom and beyond. The community and Board of Education continue to support our vision and goals as well as our mission statement of “Building strong minds, bodies and communities.”
